Hi Guys,
I stopped by my buddies house a little bit ago to take some more pics of the M37 his neighbor has rotting in his woods. I was trying to figure out the whole distributor internal capacitor external capacitor thing and wanted to get the part number off his distributor. We need to talk about that deal shortly. I took a pic of this data plates and I found the inspector's mark interesting. I have no idea what the figure is, and I feel a bit sorry for a guy who's initials were PMS. If you now what the mark is supposed to be please share it with us. I'm going to go re-look at my data plate in my M, but I'm pretty sure there are no initials on mine.
regards,
bob

Well.....upon closer inspection it looks like my data plate has the same inspector's mark and initials. Sort of. Mine is much harder to read, but I can clearly see the "S" at the end and about half of the "P" as the first initial. In between the two is a big space with no trace of an "M". I'm guessing it was a light strike and the corrosion of the plate has made it unreadable.
As for the symbol most of mine is gone, but the top part is the same with the same bumps on the top of the symbol and a few other marks that make out the fat part of the "bowling pins" for lack of a better word. I'm going to conclude it's the same symbol. I wonder if PMS was the only guy who inspected the M's?
regards,
bob

Those are crossed cannons. Likely an ordinance department seal.
Do you have any photos of your data plate you could share? My AF truck didn't come with plates so I have to try to make up some for the AF delivery.

It is an "Ordinance Stamp" my new plates were stamped with a similar one. In the Gallery/Pic album you will find an album that is only Data Plates;

Check it out.

Hi John,
Sure, but my pics ain't the best (nor are my data plates). I can try to take some better pics tomorrow. From what I recall about data plates there isn't anything specific on the plates that identify the truck as Air Force, all the M37s have the same data plates. I think the only thing that changes on the plates are the contract number, what department procured it, what department maintained it, and whether it has a winch or not. I'm sure the other guys will chime in if I'm wrong about that.
Here's a link that shows them all in one place. I've never bought from this guy so I don't know about the quality....I was just looking for a website that would show you all the plates.

I've found that there are two versions of the serial number data plate. Seems it differs just a bit for the new trucks and you can find them on eBay all the time. The plate in the link above is correct for the earlier trucks. Here are my plates;

The cross cannons is the Ordinance Corps Insignia. Meaning the truck was orderd by Ordinance and not Quartermaster like they were in WWII. PMS I'm not as sure about. PMS usually is Preventive Maintence System. A quick google shearch gives me Program Management System, Payments Management System. Could also be Precurement Management System. But the cannons are deffenitly Ordinance which would be correct for the 1950s.
