Hey there guys, I am just dropping in to say hi! I've had a pair of M37s for quite some time now but recently sold one to another very active member of the board, w30bob, and am dropping in to check things out. I also gave my other M37 to my youngest brother and now he is starting to work on it again so I'll be around the forums here some trying to help him find parts and information on the truck. Additionally I am building a '42 WC53 Carryall and have interest in using some parts from the M37 trucks in my build so I may be around here scrounging some for parts, if thats okay with you guys!

This is Bob's truck back when I still owned it and used it as a farm limo / camping truck. Picture is from picking it up to take it from my family farm to my house to go over it and inventory parts, etc.



My Brother's truck, its in a bad way needing help, but it runs, and drives and he has a good number of parts for it already.



And then my Carryall project in its rough shape. Its getting a Cummins Turbo Diesel, Allison Auto Transmission, and modern axles with disc brakes. Plan is to be able to drive it everyday and tow my wife's project... a 1968 Airstream Camping Trailer.

Hey Alex!

Good to hear from you. The M is doing fine, I'm still hoarding parts and learning as much as I can. I continually drive the guys on this forum nuts with my questions.....and they just keep giving me good information. I was going to email you to see how you're making out with the Carryall, but I didn't want to bug you.

You have some nice gear there, the Carryall and Airstream are particularly nice, your missus seems like a top sort too with a smile like that, where's the piccy of you?. Ask any questions you may have, the guys here are top notch and will sort most any problem you have.

Some fine trucks. I am envious of the Carryall. Can't wait until I get one. Are you going to leave the AirStream bare metal? You might convince the wife it will look better in OD behind the WC53

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I would have responded a touch sooner but have been out of town for work and such. The airstream is going to end up a nice polished bright aluminum, and yes, she is quite cool about everything, thats for sure!

My brother is just going to be needing a lot of soft parts and maint parts when the time comes around. He is a senior in the Physics program at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, and then starts on his Master's program but he will probably get that in only a year as he is one of those really smart (Big Bang Theory) kind of guys. We are planning on getting started on his truck some over his winter break and then again some early next spring.

Thanks for the compliments on the Carryall as well. I had been looking for one for about 12 years, off and on ofcourse, and just this past winter my wife and I were watching something on the Travel channel about unique RVs. There was a company that restored vintage trailers and she mentioned how she thought old airstreams were so cool. I agreed and said that I always wanted to find an old trailer, and pull it with an old truck, one in particular being the Carryall. She had heard me mention the Carryall before so she asked me to find her a picture of one. I showed her and she said she loved it and thought it was so cool and said "Find one!". I told her how hard they were to come by and she said that I better get to looking harder then. I ended up tripping over the one I bought and couldn't have asked for a better deal and from a very helpful seller. I think he only sold me the truck because I wanted it badly enough that I loaded up my wife and two buddies and drove all the way from Virginia to Louisiana and back to get it. Additionally the seller had asked me if I could help him aquire a WC56 frame for him. I had a friend pick one up in CT, bring it to Va, then we hauled it from VA to Baton Rouge, LA. He also has been in constant contact with me answering questions of where he found parts, why he did or didn't do certain things, etc. Its moving along well I think and I have aquired a ton of parts for it that I thought would have taken me MUCH longer to find. Aside from a few misc small body parts, I pretty much have a complete truck, once I am finished rebuilding the rear smashed up tailgate. The truck was originally at 85% complete and was being driven often. It was sadly rearended on the highway which then took over a year for insurance settlment, thus breaking the heart of the previous owner, and in turn him selling it to me for a "start-over" kind of situation.

Were your M37's sourced from a local airport or county maintenance facility in Virginia?

No clue where they lived their lives mostly. It appears they were both civic use at some point. One was used by a farmer to push snow on a private dirt road for a while before I got it. The other was a field truck its entire life until my brother, a friend, and I rigged up a fuel tank on the hood, put a battery in it, and drove it with no brakes a few miles down the road to where its been hanging out now.

I was passing through Louisiana in January 2010. I met Lee and saw his carryall (pre collision) I think you got a really great truck there. Lee is a first class guy, I felt really bad when I heard about his truck getting run into. Good luck with it.
