What are these holes for ???

Hi Guys,

I wasn't sure if I asked this question or not, so I checked my posts. It was mentioned by someone in a post I put up about where the first aid kit goes, but never elaborated on. So here goes......

In the depression in the passenger seat base where the first aid kit mounts I have two holes inline with where the canvas strap goes that holds the kit to the seat base. What are the two holes for? They seem to only be in the earlier trucks. ORD 9 didn't give me any clues. It sort of looks like a way to secure the strap from being pulled out? Maybe? First pic is one I found that shows the strap and if you look real close you can see the holes. Second pic is my passenger seat base with the holes I'm asking about circled in yellow.

If anyone knows what they're for please let me know.

thanks,
bob

Just a wild guess but I'll bet those holes are for rivets to hold the leather strap in place.

Hi JB,

Rivets....what a good idea! I was thinking something like a sheetmetal screw, but that wouldn't make much sense. But I'm thinking those holes were some way to keep the strap attached to the seat base. Did the early trucks use a leather strap? I've only seen canvas so far.

thanks,
bob

Early trucks had the cotton web belts.

I spoke to soon regarding "leather." Should have said canvas or cotton webb as above.
Although, a leather strap might be a nice touch.
