Anyone have a source for these fittings? I need one or at the least what size fits the threads on the gas tank?

Ed, could you post a picture of this for me? I may be interested....
I got a newly manufactured "fuel pick up" from VPW, and whilst it looks GREAT, and is very well made, it has no vent line connection

How does one make sure this item is working? Want to make sure it is in working order before I reassemble the tank.

Phillip,
The vent is designed to allow air into the tank, but not out, during fording when the vent on the gas cap is closed. otherwise the fumes and fuel could be sucked into the intake. If its clean, I would check it with my mouth. you should be able to blow into the inverted flare fitting but it should close if you try to apply suction.
