I doubt that the cargo sides would do much to restrain a pair of determined mastiffs! They are big, strong dogs, and will "escape" if they're of a mind to unless you chain 'em down. Hopefully, your daughter's dogs are "civilized," and the visual barrier will be enough to remind them that they're supposed to "stay."

Good question on the wood? I've seen some oak, some pine, but what is the spec on wood? Ballpark guess is that some Home Depot 1x3 oak would do the job - given the span between the seat supports. I would probably run them on a router to add a radius to the edge thou. The cargo cover supports look more like a 2x2 but the only wood off the shelf would be a deck ballister? The last is color -what's the spec?
