Seat Rebuilding Question

Hi Guys,

The seats in my M were simply a bunch of rusted springs, so I don't have much info to go on regarding how they were put together. I understand the springs go on the bottom and a foam cushion goes on top, but what goes between the springs and the foam to keep the metal springs from eating into the foam? Was there a layer of burlap or other material between the springs and the foam?

thanks,
bob

Burlap or webbing does go between the foam & springs, also your springs should be hog-ringed together for extra stability. Who ever your getting your covers from, will be happy to add to your arsenal of methods.

Some folks have used modern automotive foam to completly replace the springs. I haven't done it, but have seen the results of those who have and it looks like it does a nice job. But you're talking about a 6-8 inch thick foam and that's not cheep.
