Does anyone have a recommendation for an inline fuel filter and location?

I'd prefer one that had fittings for flare nuts at both ends and connected between the fuel pump and the flex hose.

The fuel filter issue has been visited many times and in depth on this forum. Do a "search" for fuel filters and
you'll get more info. than you ever wanted. A most recent post deals with a variety of fuel filters, their placement
in line and how many to use.
I recommend a clear plastic filter between the fuel pump and the carb. Consider it your last line of defense against
dirty fuel and old, dirty fuel lines.
Just cut a chunk out of the fuel line before the carb and install the clear filter with the small rubber hoses and hose
clamps that are supplied with the filter. Buy two or three filters to keep in reserve for when you need them.
Be sure you know the fuel line size before you buy. The clear filters are cheap and give you an opportunity to see how much
crud it's collected and a simple "look-see" will give you an indication on when to install a new filter. In a pinch you can
remove the dirty filter and back wash it with clean fuel. Not the perfect solution but may get you home or to the nearest
auto parts store.

Just re-read your post and realized you said "flex" hose. Assume that's some kind of rubber fuel line.
If that's true it'll make installation of the clear filter a snap. Cut the line, check the i.d. and buy
a clear filter to match. Finish with hose clamps.

I'm referring to the hose that goes from fuel cutoff hard line up to the top of the fuel pump, the replacement part is Eaton Weatherhead 11078 and has brass fittings at both ends.

I have had a clear plastic filter between the fuel pump and carb but I would rather have a more polished solution, I was hoping a filter like the one below would work in the same spot but without the rubber hoses.

I ended up using an ACDelco GF652 inline fuel filter between the fuel pump and carb.

I agree, looks uncluttered and trim! I thought I saw some Teflon tape on some connections, but not all of them (supply), was there a reason for that?

I didnt use any thread sealant on the fuel lines, all the connections use compression fittings.

Ahhhh I see what you are saying, the fitting coming out of the top of the fuel pump is a standard pipe fitting at one end and compression at the other so some thread sealant was used on the fuel pump side.

Not a big deal, I just wanted to clarify it. I did use it, then re-installed w/o the tape.
