Front Bumper Shackle Mount Question

Hi Guys,

I keep seeing front bumper shackle mounts for sale that are described as the "latter thicker" mounts. Since my '52 is an "early" truck I assume it came with the "earlier thinner" shackle mounts. As such I'd like to find a set, but I don't know what they look like. I assume they are the same thickness because I don't see anyone selling thinner shackles.......so what part of the mount is "thicker" or "thinner"? Is it the webbing in the depressions of the mount or maybe the base thickness? I'm hoping to find a set at Aberdeen next week....but I need to know what I'm looking for. And I'm hoping the difference is obvious. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
bob

I have a 52 also and need these same brackets. Shackles are easy to find but the brackets are more difficult to find

Where do you see these for sale, Ebay? If that's your source of info on "later thicker mounts" I suspect they might not be for an M37 but advertised that way in order to get more sales interest. I have checked both early and late parts manuals and both books list the same Ordnance Part Number, 7705779 and no mention of early or late applications. If an early mount was ever listed it was removed from the parts manuals sometime before 1952 which is the date of the book I have. My friend Ralph has an M37B1 which might be called a "late' series truck and I have a first series 50s one and bouh use the same lifting shackle mount, one is no different from the other, so I believe no thinner mount was used but as always I could be wrong.

In the manual "Be Your Own Inspector On 3/4 Ton Trucks" preventive maintennance. Page 19 states, new better brackets for front lifting shackles on your G741-series 3/4-ton truck - you need them if your truck was made in 1962 or before. Bracket, FSN 2510-973-4188, replaces Bracket, FSN 2510-770-5779, thats in TM 9-2320-212-20
p (Feb 60). Make sure you get the heavier bracket. Some of the differences (old in parentheses): cast steel (cast iron); base thickness, 1/2 inch (3/8 inch); from center of mounting hole to outer edge, 5/8" (1/2"); overall width , 5-1/4 inches (5 inches).

Hi Guys,

Carter.....you're right in that I've seen the newer better mounts on Ebay, but they also list them in the Vintage Power Wagons catalog on Page 100, Group 21, titled "Bumpers, Guards", left hand side of page in the middle. And I know I've seen other reputable M37 parts vendors list them....I just can't find that info now.

T.R......thanks for that info.....that's what I'm looking for!!

regards,
bob
