Are You SURE M37's Didn't Have Seatbelts ???

Hi Guys,

In a previous post I was told M37's didn't come with seatbelts, and I was ok with that. But today I got looking at the seat belts for my driver's seat and I find it odd they mount to holes in the back of the floor with captive nuts. Meaning the nuts were welded from underneath for SOMETHING, if not seat belts. My truck was never registered or titled, as it spent it's whole life on a farm, so I find it hard to believe someone took the time to add seat belts, especially to the passenger seat. I know that on my farm equipment I take the seat belts off....not on. They just get in the way.

I posted a pic of the seat belts in question in the Picture Gallery under Biob Brucato. Yeah, I screwed up my first name and can't change it.........so no laughing. But check out the pic and let me know what would be bolted to the rear floor where my belts are attached if those captive holes are not for seat belts.

thanks,
bob

I'm fairly certain that m37's never came with seatbelts. I don't beleve mine has the captive nuts in that location either. They were probably added by the same guy that put the light bar on yours.

Hi Brett,

You're probably right, and I'm not questioning the judgement of the folks on this forum....just seemed a bit too good of an installation. I'm going to give the guy I bought it from a call......he's had the truck forever and did install the light bar.......which has been removed. :o)

thanks,
bob

Seat belts were not original equipment in an M37. Many of them did get seat belts installed before leaving military service however. The ones that did should have a MWO (modification work order) tag somewhere near the seat header on the driver's side. Should be visible when you open the door.

In the late sixties, early seventies, the AF started adding seat restraints, my last duty station, Bucks Harbor AF Station had an M-37 with seat belts.
I'm sure they were added in the field.
