Well I got some progress made on the truck yesterday. I finished the motor mounts and I got the motor in place. I was working by myself since my helper had another thing to go do so I haven't gotten the cab back on yet. I hope to have that done next weekend. Then it's complete a few more things and maybe with a little bit of luck I can get the cab and frame out to the sandblasters by mid June. Since I'll be changing the transmission I haven't made the crossmember that it needs. I figure I can do that even after the frame is blasted. But at least now I can get a general idea of how the motor is fitting. Anyway here are a couple of pictures. The motor is a GM 6.2 Diesel out of a CUCV and it will also get a turbo on it. Don't worry I have a big shoe horn...

Glad to hear you got to play on your truck. I see you have the same foldable shop crane I have, handy aren't they?

PS: Joe, in case you find that engine is not big enough I have a V12 Allison waiting at the hanger, I thought perhaps the P&W R2800, but it may be a bit wide ....LOL

Well it's the trubo manifold that is going to give me some problems later. I will probably need to modify the inner fender on the passinger side, but I'll cross that bridge later... I'm hoping that next weekend will be nice like this past one so I can get my son-in-law over to help move things about. Maybe even clean up the garage a bit so I stop tripping over stuff...

I think the engine is sitting too low between the frame rails. Clearance between the differential and the oilpan maybe an issue unless you add some lift to the suspension. I see you are no using m37 axles so I may be wrong.
The other thing is that glow plug replacement is a PITA in a 6.2, and I think that replacing them in that low position maybe even impossible. Be sure to replace the GPs before final assembly with new glow plugs.
I also think there's no chance of taking off the exhaust manifold in thats position. In my trucks the manifolds are over the frame rail. Well, except for the flange for the downpipe, that's between the rails.
I have an M-37 and use to have an M43 (sold it a couple of years ago) with 6.2 and spicer 3053A transmissions. I did both conversions myself.

OK, NOW THAT I SAW WHAT KIND OF AN ENGINE YOU WILL BE INSTALLING, YOUR MOTTO "M37S ARE HMMWV IN MY WORLD" MADE COMPLETE SENSE!!! LOL PERHAPS JUAN IS RIGHT HOWEVER, THE ENGINE SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE LOW IN THE BAY? WHAT IS THE GAUGE ON THE SIDE THERE?

That's a level on the motor so that I made sure I had the right tilt to the motor. 3 degrees. I spent two months resaerching that and everything I found said a motor should be a t a 3 degree tilt so that is what I have.

I plan on rebuilding the motor this is just test fitting right now. I will pull it all apart and have the frame and body blasted then primed and painted. The motor will be torn down and gone through and yes new injectors will be installed. Now that I have gotten the fenders on I can look at raising the motor if I have the room. I don't want to hit the hood.

the only clearance issue with the hood is if you keep the horn in the oem place. I've moved it to the driver's side a bit. Though you are not using the round 4" air filter of the N/A 6.2. with the turbo setup you are using and it's side intake it may fit under the horn.
