Hi everyone,
I am interested to know if all of the bolts used on an M37 are marked. I have the bolts from a dissembled parts truck and quite a few are plain with no markings , the truck was straight from a fire department that got it from a government sale, it had all the army markings with no apparent mods by the fire company, they never got around to using it so I'm assuming it was very original.

Both "marked" (with grade) and plain bolts were used throughout the trucks.

Thanks Murph, they all had the squarish toothed washers on them so I was pretty sure they were military but wasn't sure.

Bolt markings vary a great deal with manufacturer. There are also many different grade markings as well. For the most part graded bolts were used in the more critical and higher loading applications.

The way bolts are documented and categorized and cataloged is very labor intense and takes a very dedicated researcher who is willing to put forth the time and effort to view and record hundreds of truck restorations to glean as much physical evidence as possible to help provide some sort of guide that would be titled something like "Correct Hardware for the Dodge M37 Restorations" or something to that effect. I have seen this level of intense research on the WWII Willys and some of the WWII Dodges and I have been involved with it on post WWII Willys / Kaiser military jeeps. It's a lot of work. It would be a great addition to this web site to create a system for recording what bolt types and their appearance were found on each M37 series restoration.
