I'm only a few days away from installing the frame and have a question on the cast pads that bolt to the cab. There seems to be lots of clearance with the bolt holes and I was hoping to put sealant between the pads and cab and pre bolt them on. The reason being is the typical rust I have seen build up under the cast pads. So how did everyone handle the line up? Or assemble loose, latch down the frame and then tighten the cast pivot pads?

Wayne. The way I did mine was to put the windshield frame on first with the cab mounting pads bolts loose, then I assemble the cab frame top that the canvas goes on and line up everything, then tightened all the bolts. I did have some trouble with the new windshield cowl seal, it seams that the new one I had was a little thicker then the old one so I had to shave it a bit to make the frame sits right. I didn't think of using any sealant between the cowl and pads which I think is a good idea, But I did paint the underside of the cowl with POR 15 then primed and painted it OD...For some reason the cowls I have seen seam to rust out from the underside first.

If you're talking about the cast iron mounting brackets/hinges that are on either side of the cowl, here's an idea.
I cut cork gaskets to put between the cowl and the brackets. Got sheets of several thicknesses from Hobby Lobby.
Use the thickness that suits you.
Looks really nice and should help keep water from migrating back into the side of the cowl. Got this idea from
some classic car restorations that I've seen at car shows. They also use the cork as a gasket on outside door handles.

As Sal stated above and I do the same: whenever I mate two metal surfaces together I use POR 15 or Eastwood Rust Encapsulator on both surfaces. I Painted my truck in the spring and took everything off the body I could: sprayed rust encapsulator on all. Its only been 7 months and all seems to be fine. MY M is stored outside in the weather 24/7.
