odd problem

Hi Guys. Even though I sold my M37 I can't seem to get away from them. Have been helping a friend put his back together. He had me go over and try driving his because a supposed problem with the clutch. When I drove it I noticed that it seemed to be behaving like it was either in low gear or had the parking break on. THe levers appear to be in 4 high and a check underneath confirmed the brake was off. He recently timed it using a vacuum gauge. Any ideas what to check other than a misadjusted transfer linkage or bad timing??? Thanks!!
Rick

Rick,
Can you clairify? How does the engine sound on its own? RPM? Is this in all gears, the same result? Will the rig come up to speed at all? This can be several things:
1. The engine is not producing adequate power and is bogging under load. How did it drive before the timing was ajusted?
2. Something in the drivetrain is amiss, clutch worn? Out of ajustment? Is something causing drag in the driveline making the engine bogg?

I would check the engine performance first. Then the drivetrain. Keep us posted and good luck

Will the truck roll on a flat surface easily in neutral?
Is the front axle engaged?
Can you shift the transfer case between high and low range?

Thanks Guys. It's not my truck... The owner didnt drive in much more than around a field and doesnt recall if it was like that but doesn't think so. It seems to have plenty of power when you accelerate, just feels like it doesnt want to accelerate all that good, almost like it does when driving in low range. The transfer levers move ok...maybe could go a little further forward. I'll have him try the rolling thing. I wa skind of thinking maybe he adjusted brakes or wheel bearing a bit tight, oh and the cluth probaly could use some work, engages right off the floor....
