are you thinking civilian or military 18 wheeler?

It's the standard military M series trailer plug receptacle used from 1949 thru today. If you look at the operator's manuals for the truck and the trailer they are both well illustrated and have pin call outs for each wire.

The M101A1 and M101A2 use this trailer harness plug.

The M101 had an odd receptacle similar to your truck (but reversed sex) but the cable it uses has the black rubber plug on both ends (male pins at truck and female sockets at the trailer).

I was thinking of a civy 18 Wheeler , would think it would be better and less problems as I understand those more. :?

If you are able to understand a civy hookup then you can also understand a military hookup. It just has more wires due to more functions/selections.

Are you converting to 12 volt and plan on civvy wiring throughout the truck?

Do you have the trailer receptacle on the back of your truck next to the left rear light assembly?

12 volt or 24 volt they both work the same. It's a matter of having all the lamps changed from one to the other. With the wiring diagram posted, it shouldn't be a problem to hook up any trailer. Each pin (wire) has a job to do,brake light, turn signal, etc. I'm not aware if this type of receptacle used on military vehicles is used on 18 wheelers. Not that you can't.
