Can these trucks in their stock configuration run on mogas? If so, did they ever?
Just curious, thanks!

Yes! I've heard two deffintions for MOGAS 1. Mogas = Military Ordnance Gasoline. 2. Mogas = Motor Gasoline. In otherwords its regular gasoline and not diesel, JP-4 etc. So yes these trucks ran on MOGAS.

I was told that MOGAS stood for Mobil Gasoline, so no one would not get it mixed up with Avgas.

Sal,

Someone was funning with you. Mogas is & was the tank at the GI gas station with regular auto gas in it. Just about all the oil companies at one time or another got to supply the military with Mogas. When I was in the USAF we had choice between Diesel #1, Diesel #2, JP-4, Mogas, and Avgas 115/145.

Sorry Cuz I should have made my statement clearer. I said Mobil Gasoline, not meaning the Gasoline company but as in Mobility Gasoline... sorry... (see arrow on pic)

That term MOGAS was also on all the fixed storage tanks as well. Not mobil or mobilty just Motor Gasoline for the military.

Boy! The things some people try to tell others as "facts," adding that "I was there, so I oughtta know!" I've got an uncle like that. He washed out of basic training in the second week, but to hear him talk he won the war in 'Nam all by himself. If you ask, he'll "tell you everything there is to know" about a HMMWV even though he's never been close enough to one to do more than watch it go by in a parade.

Cuz is right on with the definition of MOGAS.

Yep! That's what was available to me, too. We generally used #1 diesel for heating oil, #2 for diesel trucks/equipment, and mogas for other vehicles. I have been known to fill my Zippo lighter with JP4 a time or two. It doesn't light off as easily as Ronsonol and it smokes a bit, but it will work in a pinch. ;)
