"The Rat Patrol" on Netflicks!!

My 9 year old son was watching Pawn Stars at the Grandparents house this last weekend and someone brought a Rat Patrol lunch box into the pawn shop. When he came home he asked me what the Rat Patrol was and if I had a Rat Patrol lunch box when I was a kid, unfortunately I didn't but his questions made me curious. I used the search feature on my XBox/Netflicks account and discovered that The Rat Patrol is available, two seasons worth!!
I began watching season one last night with my son, he pointed out the M37 with medical markings at the end of episode 2. We've only seen the one M37 so far but I anticipate seeing a lot more as we watch more episodes.
I realize now after watching a few episodes that it's kinda cheesy and totally inaccurate but I have fond memories of that show from my childhood. As a kid I loved the thought of tear-assing around the desert in Jeeps and shooting the shit out of the Afrika Korp. I can honestly say that show is responsible for my love of military vehicles and all things OD and I wouldn't have my M37 if it weren't for that show, it really made an impression on me when I was young.

LONG LIVE SGT MOFFIT AND HITCH AND TULLY AND...I used to watch Rat Patrol also. LOL I really liked the jeeps the most . They used a bunch of old vehicles in that show. Always trying to get old LT Deitrich and his Africa Corps guys. Alot of the vehicles would switch sides too.

I wasn't a kid when Rat Patrol aired, but I never missed an episode if I could help it!

A friend gave me a few shows on a DVD, The one had an M37 delivering touchy explosives. Did you take note of the tires on the Jeeps?

I think I know which episode that was. The M meets the jeeps in the desert and and then the guy demonstrates the explosive ......
But whats up with the Jeep tires?

The M37 carrying the explosives is season 1, episode 9, just watched it yesterday. The one with Ed Asner is the other M37 episode (M37 with medic markings) and that is season 1, episode 2.
I'm up to episode 10 in season 1 and I've also noticed the tires on the Jeeps. The show was filmed on location in Spain so they probably used tires that were available locally when the military NDs went bad. I also noticed that the fifties mounted on the jeeps are the aircraft version (don't know the nomenclature off the top of my head), skinnier than a Ma-Duece with a higher rate of fire.
Like I said earlier it may not be the most accurate show but it is fun to watch.

Nice info on the guns. I didn't know that.
How about the story that in the intro scene when the jeeps fly over the sand dunes that the guy standing in the one jeep hanging on the 50 broke his neck. I have always wondered if that were true. It sure looks like he gets a case of whiplash for sure.

OK I did some checking and there does not seem to be anyone killed during the making of Rat Patrol. BUT there was an accident during the filming of an episode where the jeep containing Christopher George rolled over during a tight turn. He was inujured including damage to his heart. He died in 1983 at the age of 54 from a sudden heart attack and it was related to the injuries he suffered from the roll over.
Well for anyone interested the complete series is available at Amazon for 27.00. Some of their sub sellers have it for 20.00.
