Well, I got my dust cover boot from Vintage and when they sent it, I ordered a gas can strap also. I asked for a single piece strap with the spring clip, I got a two piece strap with the friction teeth buckle. My not so tech question is, is there a difference as far a year for the single strap vs. the two piece? My truck is a 1954. Is there a difference in gas can holders for a particular strap, and finally, how do I attach the two piece strap to the can holder? One end of one strap is sewn with the other end having the end crimped on, the other strap with the buckle has a raw end. Any pictures of attachment etc. would be helpful or I just call them and send it back, which I hate to do.

Just a thought...... why not call/email the vendor and ask them?
I never gave it much thought but I looped the short end with the buckle through the front opening in the gas can
holder and riveted the "raw" end. Used super glue to keep the cut ends from fraying. If your strap is nylon or polyester
or some other man made product in it you can scorch the ends with fire to melt the ends together.
In practice, the two piece belt seems to work a lot better for me. No matter what you decide if you get critized for
doing it your way you can always tell them "it's a field mod."
Again, no expert here.... others may have the "correct" solution.

I don't have my 20P manual handy at the moment but I would think there would be an illustration included within....

Actually it's sewn together, which I think is a crazy way for it to be. I like the rivet idea myself.

Vendor said they are riveted together for the repros, that's ok but they didn't send any rivets which are supposed to be in the kit, copper or nickel. The one piece straps are on back order. Not sure what I'll do yet, too cold to work on it. The 20P shows the two piece strap but doesn't give any detail for replacement or attachment, just a dotted line drawing or the strap.

I encountered both types during my many years in the Air Force, and I much prefer the one-piece design. You can slide it until you get the buckle exactly where you want it. You can't do that with the two-piece strap.
