I've decided it will be less expensive to ship it to Utah as opposed to trailering it so I need to know who you might recommend as a reputable shipper at a reasonable cost. My internet responses run from $500 to $1,025 but I know nothing about these shippers and want to ensure it arrives intact (with all the spare parts) and no damage.

Who have you used, and how was the experience? I'd like to set this up next week if I can get some good info here.

I went through an outfit called "U-Ship." It's kind of an exchange truckers use to find back-hauls and cut down on deadhead miles. You post your shipping need and contact info (free) and truckers will contact you with their offers. After getting a few offers, you'll have an idea of what the current costs are and can pick out the one you want to do the job. The guy who hauled my truck from IL to GA was great!

Good morning, The last "big" thing I had shipped was a 40' Admorals Barge, from NY to St Pete,
fl. I used LEWIS SPECIALIZED TRUCKING, Out of Jacksonville, Fl. They were effecient, timley and did a great job for the right price. I would contact them, and see if they haul MV.

I also used U-SHIP to move my truck from Utah to Central Idaho. I received several proposals and came to an agreement with a fellow who had a gooseneck trailer and truck. Things worked out great for me but I suppose it's only as good as the person you end up with.....

Actually, that decision would be made by the carrier. The guy who hauled my M also hauled my '55 Pontiac on the same load, and neither would run. He had a winch, so it wasn't a problem. Most haulers prefer to winch them on anyway, even if they do run.

I used Echo logistics to get the tires shipped from San Diego to Wisconsin. They are a broker, but, they contracted with R and L carriers, and both Echo and R&L were quick, efficient, cost effective, and very communicative. They shipped the set of 4 for $300 to my door, which was $75 less than anyone else (and everyone else wanted me to pick up at the terminal), and a whopping 1400 less than what Fed Ex wanted!

A couple of more expweiences with U-Ship and Freight Quote: I had a trucking company ship two Detroit Diesel 671 engines from Calif to NY. They dropped one somewhere along the line, cracked the gear case and refused to make good for it. On another shipment, a marine twin disc gear from NY to Salisbury MD. I got a quote thru U_Ship They picked it up at the yard,I loaded on with a forklift, un- loaded at the shop in MD with a fork lift. Paid the bill with a cc, and a couple of week later they billed me an additional $75 for not unloading at a commercial establishment. It was shipped to a marine transmission shop. I know the shop and know the facilities they have on hand. I had to dispute the cahrge to get my money back. BE CAREFUL. BOB

You might post this over on Steel Soldiers. They have a forum dedicated to shipping, and there will be a wealth of experience in moving MVs.

A good site for truckers is www.yesterdaystractors.com. Go to the community page, then click on hauling schedule. We have gotten haulers several times using this page, generally quick response and all have given good service.
