Strange problem

Have just fitted a NOS ETW1 carb to the truck and although it is
a vast improvement on what I had there appears to be a problem.

When driving at around 45-50 miles per hour and I take my foot of the gas pedal slightly, the engine dies
right down and I am unable to accelerate again for a few seconds. If I press the pedal hard to the floor it will
start to accelerate though.

Could it be something in the carb that is sticking a little?
I didnt take the carb apart to check it before I fitted it but it appears to be in immaculate condition.

Any advice appreciated, as always !!

MY truck did the same thing when I rebuilt the carb using a new leather cupped accelerator pump. The leather pump piston was slightly too big and would stick in the bore , thus causing no accelerator pump squirting down the carb throat. I had to remove it and slightly reduce the diameter of it until it fit nicely in the bore.I tried to soak it in light penetrating oil but that still would not work. The only solution was to turn it against a grinder wheel and wear off some of the leather until it fit. I would check the piston and maybe the bottom discharge hole for debris or cosmoline before grinding down the leather cup.. Terry

Hi Stu,

I bought a new carb straight out the box,and ran it ,i thought it was set ready to go and didnt run right, when i checked the float level it wasnt where it should have beeb and was starving the engine, once i had set it,it ran like a dream...

Maybe worth a look..

Paul.

Paul, do you have a special float guage or did you just know that it wasnt right?

I might look into that I think, thanks.
