A CB, like any other radio requires an antenna of a specific length in order to operate efficiently. A full-wave antenna would be 408 inches (34 feet) long, which would be impossible to mount on a vehicle. A half-wave antenna would be 204 inches (17 feet) long and would also work well but be impractical to mount on a vehicle. A quarter-wave antenna is 102 inches (8.5 feet) long and is what we call a "whip" antenna. They are readily available at any radio shop.

What kind of antenna you use makes no difference as far as "boost" is concerned. For that, you would need a linear amplifier, which would increase your output power to a range far in excess of what is legal. I know...some people do it and get away with it. Others try but get caught. They end up paying hefty fines and having their equipment confiscated. It's best to stay legal!

On the military "look" issue, a genuine military-issue antenna would work just fine as long as the length was correct. Like I said, 102" is the standard but all radio transmitters vary a little bit. Because of this, an antenna must be "trimmed" to get the ideal standing wave ratio for your transmitter. You would need a SWR meter to do the setup. The ideal SWR is as close to zero as you can get it.

I do understand about triming the whip/ stinger and do have an S W R and know how to use it well , and also know about the 102" antennas I'm trying to keep my truck to the best military look but beable to use my C B with the power boost of 350 watt kicker punch up to 405 w , so I'm thinking that this 102" whip is like the old state thooper type but what about the base , would it be the same as the old spring looking base or is there some more military better looking and still function with my game plan. picture please! so i can get a lQQk see! Several of the military antennas have the spring base. 405 watts is definately in the illegal range for a CBm though. I never advocate the use of a "heater" on the Citizens band. It just isn't worth the risk!

Get an AB-15 antenna and the MS-116, MS-117, and MS-118 antenna sections. You will need the trianglar mount for that antenna (Sorry don't remember the number but common for this truck) and you will be in the ball park for tunning. You may need to cut the MS-118 down a bit and if so use a small pipe cutter (antenna is basically copper tubing) and then remember to put some type of cap on then end. There are these plastic tips that go on the antenna that will work to cover the end and they are military, but if my memory serves me correctly you will be within acceptable SWR with that set up. Just make sure the ground is good.
