Anyone ever get rid of the brass cone and use a bearing for the steering knuckle top? Does the wheel turn easier with this mod? What turning torque was the double bearing preloaded to?

We do that on our rebuilds all the time. Feel free to give us a call or email at the website below.

That's what I was looking for. I had already rebuilt the knuckles with new lower bearing and shimmed to specs, but would like to get the steering smoother. The last thing to rebuild will be the steering box and the shim kit is on the way.
Thanks

I have recently completed adding power steering to my truck as my steering was extremely heavy. When it came to removing the old steering box I discovered that it
was full of water and practically rusted solid !! No wonder I needed arms like POPEYE to steer the thing. Hopefully your steering box is in servicable condition!

Does anyone know the proper preload when changing from brass bushings to bearings
on the steering kunckle?
Thank you.

Thank you.
A good preload setting for roller bearings top and bottom is 5 ft. lbs. or 60 in. lbs. with the torque reading taken from the middle of the knuckle unit without the knuckle housing felt seal in place.
