Nice day and a short run yesterday...

Saturday I decided to change the rear pinion seal since it gushed the last time I took a spin. Thankfully I had a puller to take off the companion flange that was stuck in place, and finished the job in an hour or two.

Anyway, yesterday offered up nice weather so we took a 2-mile drive to the nearest pond to relax, walk a little, and my wife shot some photos of the local wildlife. It was relatively uneventful until time to leave, when my about-to-die starter cranked slower and slower, but finally caught and we made it back home ok. (I mentioned in another post why I stuck with 12V, and was on the verge of asking for a jump when it finally started). On the way home we passed some guys grilling some steaks, and since my M "purrs like a rhinoceros" they gave a bunch of smiles and "thumbs up" as we rumbled by-nice way to cap the ride!

Hi Gary. Sounds like a great afternoon I like your description of "purring like a rhinoceros"
You probably checked this, but is your battery getting a good charge? Reason I say this is when I put in my new engine it had a 24v alternator and wow what a difference in the charge in the batteries. Much better charging than the generator ever could do. I had thought that it was supposed to turn over slow.

Gary, Sounds like a fine time. Glad your seal repair went well.
I hope to paint my truck this weekend and get it back on the road for Memorial Day :)

Thanks guys! Yep, I run a single wire 12V 60 amp alternator and have two new (less than 18 months old) batteries wired in parallel. It's the starter that is so toasted it once caught fire. I'll land a replacement in Topeka this summer at the MVPA National.

Hey David, I also have that paint project on tap for this spring! You might recall I did all the interior last year; now it's time to tackle the outside, and I'll likely shoot the interior again to tidy it back up. Jeez I hate all that stripping and sanding....
