what are my options, if any, for installing a military radio in my M that will/can be made to run on 12volts and will receive AM signals and broadcast them over an interior speaker? I listen to AM radio and a nice mil unit in my truck would still look normal. Thank you in advance-bill

Some people have used an ammo can to put a radio in and a GI speaker wired up to it. That would be the quickest and easiest way to look GI with out trying to convert a GI Radio.
Now a GRR-5 is a great GI Shortwave receiver radio that covers the AM band. Will work on 6 12 and 24 volts. Is military and was made during that time. The only thing is it is huge and will not fit in the cab and would have to be mounted in the bed. You would have to pick the station before leaving and leave it set till you stopped.

I've been wondering along the same lines but I was wondering if anyone made a normal AM-FM broadcast band receiver that LOOKED like a military radio. It seems like I've seen something like that but I don't recall the details. Anyone know of anything like that? 12 or 24 volts. It doesn't matter.

There are several "ruggedized" AM/FM radios on the market for sportsmen. They are usually black with chrome "accents" or yellow with black "accents." I've seen them in the sporting goods section or Wal*Mart, Farm King, Farm & Fleet, and the local sporting goods store. All it would take to make them look "military" is a can of matte OD spray paing.

You know this is one of those things I wish I had the money to go into production and make some military looking radios that would fit into the military mounts and run on 24V. This way you could have a radio in the MV but listen to AM/FM and CDs. (this idea is hereby patten and copywritten by k8icu)

I went with the battery operated PRC-77 so I can communicate with other HMV road warriors. That doesn't address the AM signal but I wanted one that can be removed easily so someone else doesn't "remove it" for me....

i think i have solved my problem. i plan to install an aircraft ADF receiver in my glovebox and a PA speaker under the dash(or some type of military speaker unit in view. the ADF receives AM signals and will look more military than a stock auto radio. thoughts?
