Can anyone tell me what this bracket is for? There's also one on the passenger side.[img]

Just a guess, but it sounds like the hood safety catch, should be a catching hole on the right side of the hood, riveted on. The bar looks like a wide "U".
[____] something like this?

Thanks for responding. Since I obviously don't know how to post a pic
(I can't figure how to get it from my computer to this site) I will give a better description. These brackets are bolted to the dog leg support that supports the windshield frame. They're about half way between the pivot and the weld to the support frame. It's a right angle bracket that sticks out about 2.25" (horizontal) and has a 3/8 X 1" slot to mount something.
I've looked a hundreds of pics and have never seen them before.
I'll have to get my grandson to show me how to do the pic to make this a lot easier.

I have the same bracket on the passenger side (I think) and I was under the impression that it was for strapping down the jerry can while it was in the mount. Could the driverside one be a support for the heater tubing when the external fender mount heater is installed? Or perhaps a tie down point for transporting a roll of camo-netting across the hood?

I was refering to the bracket just forward of the window pivot, above the jerry can mount. I may have been mistaken about the bracket in the original questions.

The bracket you're referring to is part of the jerry can holder. The retaining strap comes up through the slot you see in the can holder, up behind the bracket you're referring to, out through the hole in the bracket, and through the jerry can handles to the buckle on the other end of the strap.

Bruce,
thanks for the pic. (where do I get info to post pics like this like this?)
Your assumption is incorrect. The brackets on my truck are on the windshield support bracket (shaped like a dog-leg) just in front of the weld to the windshield support frame.
Thanks again,
Ron

I didn't know that - thanks for the info Lifer!

the bracket I'm talking about is above the pivot next to where the support is welded to the window frame. If the restraining strap was fastened to this bracket, how could you fold the window down on the hood?

Ron,
You must load your photos on a photo album web site and then link them by their web site location (URL) to this page. I use
www.mypicgallery.com since it is very inexpensive and you can use it without having to subscribe to any odd software.
