Is the nut #7348982 that tightens against the lock holding the hub on suppossed to have a groove or is it worn?

I'm assuming you are talking about the outer nut seal mating surface. No there should be no groove, it is common to see one though. You will need to replace it or the seal won't seal the oil from the hub bearings.
