any ideas on how to free up my engine its been sitting up for years and no it wont turn at all tried a socket and pull handle on the hand crank nut wouldnt budge only tighened or loosened the nut it self

pull the spark plugs and dump a diesel/ATF mix in the cylinders. let it sit a week or so, then try pulling it over. Leave the plugs out when you try to turn it over so that it doesnt hydraulicly lock on ya. It'll most likely need a rebuild regardless if you get it turning again if its locked up that badly.

I agree with Josh. At the very minimum, it's gonna need to be pulled apart so you can hone the cylinders and install new rings. More than likely, though, a complete overhaul is in order. If you can do all the work yourself, the cost of parts isn't too terribly bad. If you have to pay someone else to do the work, the job will cost you close to $1,500. (That's what it cost me, anyway. Money well spent, too!)

was figureing on rebuild was wanting to see if it would run before sinking too much in it tried soaking already used diesel,hydraulic oil,pb blast mix that i let sit 6 days ago probly gonna tried again after it sits a little longer

Got the engine torn down tonight on the 'restored' M37 I bought. Gentleman selling it mentioned it needed a "valve job". It does indeed, but as 2 pistons were grenaded and one is seriously cracked, priorities change... Hard to believe, but this tough old bird was running (barely) when I got it out of the truck!

with a few items being M37 specific (Oil pump, for example, and the carb kit). Anyway, not counting the military distributor and plugs I had to get, cost of parts alone is still around 1200. The milspec stuff is coming, hopefully, from Sid Beck and/or John at Midwest. If you can suggest a better source than Kanter for the rest, I'm all ears...

I'm farming out the machining ($650) and balancing ($150).

By the way, for those looking for military plugs: The best price I found on them was at Amazon, oddly enough - about 8.75 each.
