New Denman NDTs on the truck!

I went to Auto & Truck HQ. here in Havre de Grace and ordered 4 of them as well as tubes and flaps which will be delivered tomorrow, $165.12, tube and flap also included in the price and no shipping cost. The tires on the red truck were about 30 yrs. old and in need of replacement so I have my work cut out for me. The trucks front tires have already been removed, rims have been blasted, deep pits welded up and painted ready for new rubber, I had installed some old Goodyear NDTs on those rims so I would be able to move the truck around and I'll take them off and put the Denmans on. Now it's time to dismount the rears and do the same to those rims. It'll take longer for the paint to dry than it will take to dismount, clean, repair and install the new rubber but I'm in no hurry since I still have to install the gas tank and fuel lines so I can get the engine started.

Sounds great. Auto and Truck HQ was a great place to deal with. Placed order, two days later tires tubes and flaps were literally sitting by my side door. Can't ask for much more than that.

I don't care what anybody says, no tire to me looks better on an M37 than a set of NDT's. Sure some may perform better, but none look better.
And as to performance, I am not convinced NDT's suck. The last snowstorm my truck had absolutely no problems in running NDT's.

Mud and snow is what they were made for. Glare ice, hardpacked snow on paved roads and rain on paved roads they were not designed for.
I agree they look the best on the truck, and do well in mud and deep snow but slippery highway use is marginal at best.

Nick, Auto & Truck Hq. is a good place to get NDTs and Glenn remember and mentioned you yesterday while I was picking the tires up. He also commented that he had a call from a guy in Scotland UK about availability who said he got the phone# and info from a Google search and reading G741. Seems the word gets around. They still have 4 more to sell and the price will be going up on them next month. No I dont have stock in the company.
I also like the look of the NDTs but they really don't do well in panic stops since there is little actual surface area contact when pumped up to 40psi. Last time I had to come to a fast stop because some jerk pulled out in front of me the tires left skid marks about 2" wide and 50~' long, about the width of the skid marks in my shorts.

Wow, bet that dude in Scotland will pay a pretty shilling for shipment overseas.
Yeah, I've heard that NDT's blow on rainswept pavement, and I guess I have no counterpoint to that. One thing's for sure, I probably will never find out, as I don't take my truck out when it rains.
I'd bet not too many tires do well on hard packed snow and ice.....Gotta know your equipment, and know when not to tempt fate.
I just wish they wouldn't lay down four inches of salt for a 2 inch snowstorm so I could have fun in the white stuff more. I don't like salt so only will take the truck out during the big storms, like the one we recently had, so I can beat the snow plows and salt trucks to the punch.

Are you going to get them balanced? If so where do you go for this.
Most shops won't balance this size wheel and tire. I did find a guy with a bubble balancer but would prefer a better job if possible.

Any tire shop that balances rig tires shouldn't have any problems with balancing tires this size.
As a last resort, most vocational schools that teach mechanics will often swap over and balance tires for nothing, as its training for the students.

Correction to orig. post. I had posted that the cost of the tires was going to be $165.12, I guess I had that price in mind when I was typing and before I had actually paid for everything but I am not sure where I got it and was way off in actual money I paid for everything, sorry to provide wrong info. It's not like I was trying to mislead anyone, what would be the point of that? This stuff is expensive and I just screwed up.
Here is the invoice and the correct pricing, as you can see I didn't get the deal that was orig. stated in my post.

Hey Dave, how is everything?
Once I get the last one mounted and on the truck (3 already on cleaned, painted rims and on truck) I am going to take it for a drive and see how well balanced they are and then decide what needs to be done. I put the new ones on my restored rig and have installed the tires from that truck on the red 52.
The place I got them from work on big trucks and are capable of balancing if needed, the last set of NDTs I bought from them required none.

I, too, prefer the look of the NDT even with it's limitations on slick roads. Keep it slow and stay in your lane....
