Anyone have any tips on putting the filler pipe hose on? I'm going out to the barn to make an attempt, but I figured I might check and see if anyone has any advice on the matter...

Well, I cut mine 3 inches. The space between the fuel tank pipe and the filler pipe is about 1/2". My decision: Screw it. While I have a break for 2 weeks, my dad and I will take the whole bed off. We won't even worry about the filler pipe hose until later. The bed needs to come off so we can patch it up, so we might as well go ahead and do that while we have time!

I soaked mine in hot water. Disconnect the filler pipe from the bed and attach the hose to the tank. Work the filler pipe onto the hose and then reattach the filler pipe. I didn't have too much trouble..

Rick, I was thinking exactly that. Until I decided that I might as well take the whole durned bed off while I have the time and gumption to do it!

I was thinking diameter of the hose, not length? I did mine at the filling station, started filling it up, much to my surprise, petrol was running all over the ground,O'Riley's was right next door!

hmmm... mine is around 2" or so, I think.

Not sure about where you live, but no one around here had fuel safe house in a large enough diameter so I had to order mine from VPW.

It has been a while since I put it together.

Hello all. I got my truck from the Greek army with a rediator fose attached to the filler neck and the breather hole next to the filler neck. The hose was working fine but when I wanted to remove my tank for cleaning it was impossible to get the hose loose. It was also impossible to remove the bolts that held the cover in place from the bed side, so I cut the hoses. Unable to find fuel hose in this diameter I reinstalled radiator hose and it has been leak free 7 years now. The installation proceedure was to install both hoses to the filler neck first and then wiggle the tank with another person's help to enter the bottom of the filler hose. The breather was more flexible and went in easily. tighten all claps after that. It worked for me. Happy holidays to all.

My filler neck base and gas tank neck are both 2 1/4" diameter.

The correct diameter is 2 1/4" ID. Do not use radiator hose, it will last a short while, but will turn soft & become gummy putting residue in your tank that will cause plugging problems, etc. The correct hose is available at NAPA, it comes in 3' lengths, most stores will cut to length. Just ask for straight stick hose that is gasoline resistant. I can call my store for a part# if you need it.

I got mine from VPW as well, nice and thick with steel wire reinforcements. I cannot remove the filler pipe cover from my bed, nor the bed floor, so the whole thing is coming off. The front of the bed can use some TLC, too. (IE cutting part off and welding part from another bed onto it)
