Went for another long ride with the new one wire alternator

This thing works great! I was use to the generator being reliable until it finally went south. It was the original one on the truck. For anybody that wants piece of mind,I think you would enjoy one of these. Went for a four hour drive the other night in the rough stuff,on the street,etc. Headlights nice and bright and showed a nice solid charge on the gauge. I feel I can trust it no problem! :D I'll start doing some in depth tests with a voltage and amp meter soon.

is that a chevy alternator with the field closed?

I think its more than that. It uses a special regulator. Works really well. I'm not adding any power sucking accessories to my truck,so it will be fine. If it was just a closed field,wouldn't it just run away and max out on output?

No...closing the field ie putting a jumper on the two pins on the back of the alternator activates the regulator. Without closing the field it won't generate anything. The Chevy alternators have an internal regulator. I have used them with a 3.5 sideshaft engine and a phase invertor to make a small gen set for camping
