Engine Start after 5 years?

I've been looking at a vehicle that has been sitting in a garage for 5 years. We were going to by-pass the fuel tank with a 1 gal can at the fuel pump - ultimately draining and flushing the fuel tank. With all the oil sitting in the pan, should we pull the plugs and shoot some oil in the cylinders and turn it over? Any other obvious precautions? Thanks - Keith

I wouldn't shoot any oil into the cylinders unless you suspect corrosion in there. I would think since the vehicle has been indoors for all that time a preliminary check of the plugs and a clean supply of fuel should get it going. If it were outside, that would be entirely different-you'd be checking for squirrel nests in the intake, bugs, carb cleaning, etc.

You might want to take and turn the motor over by hand a few rotation before firing it up just to make sure it turns and the help get some oil up on things. Also check the oil to make sure that A you have some in there and B that it doesn't have water in it etc.
What kind of vehicle another M37?

There is an article over on the power wagon forum that is called "waking a sleeping beauty" or something like that. I pretty much did as they direct but I didn't totally fill the block with oil then drain it back down like they say. I turned it some by hand and then I took the plugs out and with a set of good batteries turned it over till I got pretty decent oil pressure a couple times, then plugs back in and fired it up.
