Midwest Military had a complete used unit a few months ago......

I have a pintle hitch (GI) similiar to the one that NAPA sells.......that is not what I want. I'll try Midwest Military, but what I'm looking for is all the brackets, that mount to the rear crossmember that allow for the pintle to rotate 360 degrees. The pintle itself "could" be bolted directly to the crossmember, but that is not the correct set up for a M37.

Actually, fixed and rotating pintles are both "correct" for an M37. My 1954 model, for example, still has its original fixed pintle. I have no idea when the rotating model was introduced or if it was limited to specific end-use applications, though, so I can't help you there. Suffice to say, the fixed pintle is "okay to use" unless you'd just rather have a rotating one.

I wasn't aware of that, every M37 I have seen had the rotating type, including the two I owned several years ago. I'll have to see if my pintle matches the holes in the crossmember, if so that'll fix that problem! If not, I'll be looking for a rotating assy. Will post here later what I find out, hopefully tomorrow.

Actually both the early and later B1 series rotated. They used different styles of mounting. The earlier used a separate spindle mounted to the truck that would have a Jeep style pintle bolted to it. The later used a pintle with a shaft cast into it that rotated. So, depending on early or late they both should rotate but none of the parts were interchangeable.

Thanks for that information, I was eyeing the one on the back of my M1009 CUCV, which might work if mine were a B1 model, but mines a '51, so I need the swivel one that the pintle bolts to. Thanks for clearing that up......I guess I'm still on a quest for the early type. I just missed one on ebay last week by $8.00! Sometimes it doesn't pay to be cheap....DOH!

I think it went for $89.00 and some odd cents. I think I was willing to go $75.00 on it, so I probably put a bid like $81.03 or something wierd to get it, but the bid ended while I was at work......such is life.

The swiveling pintle was designed for pulling heavy-loaded trailers. The theory was that having the rotating piece on the truck would reduce the stress and wear on trailers if they had the pivoting tongue...
