How is the long positive cable for the slave outlet routed to the starter? It seems long, does it go up into the frame somehow or up the firewall? :?

Sounds like you have a slave outlet set up for another vehicle. The same outlet is used with various lengths of cable for many different vehicles. The best thing to do is simply replace the cable with one of the correct length once you define how you can best route it.

The slave goes to the battery not the starter.

TM 9-8030 states on page 249, under Auxiliary Power Receptacle Removal "Disconnect the slave receptacle cable".... "from the starter switch terminal"

Both of you are right, depends on the vehicle whether it originally hooked on the starter switch or the positive battery post. You can do it either way. The original M37 hook up was at the starter switch, 2 1/2 & 5 ton trucks were hooked at the battery post.

Great info Gents, I picked up a slave receptacle awhile back and also a new set of jumper cables. I thought the long cables meant I would be going back to the batteries for the +, now I have a choice :) I have a 3Kw gen-set and my Son has a 10Kw that we can start a lot easier with the M37 than digging up two 12V batteries and setting it all up.

Thanks for the help guys.
Charles, good point, it may be for another truck , my positive cable is about 4 feet long. I will find a suitable routing and shorten it accordingly. :)

Well that explains it... :) I've only worked on M151s M35s and the like....never had a M37 in the motorpool before....

It's DC current either way would work fine, I just thought that maybe by going to the battery he might be able to take up some of the exsess in the battery compartment.

BTW Sorry for the shorter post with out explaination...I was at work and all heck broke loose just as I was posting.
