Is there a trick to removing the shocks? I assume it should be under pressure.

Fully collapsed...fully extended...somewhere in between...doesn't matter. They go on and come off the same way as any other shocks (except maybe McPherson struts). I usually jack the vehicle up untill I can get the wheel off, making sure there are jack stands under the frame, and then jack up the end of the axle enough to partially collapse the shock. It doesn't take much...just enough to make sure there's no weight hanging on the shock.
Then, you just remove the nuts and slide (beat?) the shock off, clean everything up, slide the new shock on and button everything up before moving on to the next one. Simple in theory...will make you work up a sweat in reality.

Thanks for the info. I am down to removing the last components off my frame for a resto. Just worried that the shocks were under pressure.

Lifer has it pretty well put. You will probably find them pretty flacid when you remove them, at least the ones on my frame were.
