ok now we got the box all finished and installed, what brand/size batteries will fit in it with a stock hold down? i don't care if they look original as long as they fit the stock tray

The original batteries were the 2HN which are available through a few of the surplus dealers. If you want to pay the big bucks look into a set of Optimas. The military has basically switch over to them. I was at my armory last month and the one unit got issued a bunch of brand new 10kw and larger gensets and there from the factory were optimas. Also they had a FMTV that they were working on and they were putting in a set of opts also. Other than that I know that there is suppose to be a civy replacement for the 2HNs but I don't know the number. I'm sure someone will post up.

I've just got 2 standard "heavy-duty" NAPA car batteries, and they fit just fine. Don't slide around or nothing.

the 2hn are still available new from our local batt wholesaler at $85 each, dad got 2 cheaper ones that were $90 for the pair that fit good enough think their dekas for an old falcon also used in old propane forklifits?

22NF is the same size as the mil spec but the terminals are reversed. They are easy to find. I believe there is a 22SNF that has the correct terminal but they are much harder (read $$$) to find..

I do love the optima batteries, I am convinced they crank better in cold weather too...

I purchased Interstate MT51's. This is the higher CCA version of the 22NF.

Perhaps the additional advantage of your choice is that that they may look more like the originals.....
