to change my inner axle seals in my front axle do i have to drive the seal from the inside out to remove? i noticed when i removed the axle shaft that the seal was behind a brass bushing out towards the end of the axle tube.

You are going to need a slide hammer with a finger-hook type attachment. That's what I used anyway and it made the job really easy. --Steve

so even with the bushing in front of it the slide hammer did the job? i'll have to buy or borrow a slide hammer then. i was going to fit sections of pipe from one side to the other. your way sounds easier!

Yeah, you just have to work your way around the circumference of the seal, sliding the hammer a few times in each spot, but they popped out pretty quick. I just rented one for the day for $15.

Slide hammer is the key, but a better option is with a 2 jaw expandable puller attachment instead of the finger type. Some of these seals & bushings are really tight. The expandable jaw type prevents slip offs & really is easier to use for this job, especially since you are pulling bushings & seals in the same operation.
