I just got back from picking up my michelin 11.00 r 16 tires. I got them off of ebay for $39.00. I still cant belive it. They are in great shape, I find it hard to stomach the idea that they can go for as much as $1000 a set. When I bought my first set two years ago I paid a quarter of that for them. But got hit for $200 shipping.

It's nice when you actually get a deal on eBay. Usually stuff goes for outrageous prices there. I saw a door mount spare tire carrier go for over $600 My last eBay deal was two years ago. I got a mint set of cargo bows, headache rack, and extra troop seat for $140 because they where in the middle of nowhere. I had bid $150 and was sure I would not get them. 300 miles later when I got there he had a barn full of stuff and was sorry I did not take a bigger truck and more cash. I did manage to get a mint exhaust manifold he let go for $40. Even with the fuel cost to travel it was still a bargain. Parts roadtrips are so fun. Enjoy those tires

You had the same thing happen to you. Its funny how that works. The trip was 300 miles each way for me. But this time of year it was worth it with a doubt.

IMHO: the tire went for cheap for 3 reasons, he did not list them well, they are worn down to 3/8-1/2" tread depth, and they are still mounted on the LAV rims. Many tire shops give up after trying to get them off those rims. This also explains why the other sets in worse condition are not selling well. The XL's are alleged to be retreadable - but I haven't found anyone able to do them in central PA as mine wore quickly on the streets and lost small chunks from rocks while running trails last weekend.

At $39, you could not go wrong for the set. Good luck getting the rims off - you may want to ask on the forums for suggestions or get LAV wheel adapters to run the rims on your M37. BTW, with all that rotating mass, you should be running disc brakes in the front.

A buddy went to Anniston, Alabama to pick up tires at Gensco Aircraft Tire. He took some cell phone pictures of 900:16 NDT that had 80% tread. He put the owner on his cell phone who said he was selling them for $60 each (no tax). Payment was cash, credit card, check or what have you. He said he would ship 4 tires for around $75.

NDT 9.00 x 16 tires - have not been purchased by the military in decades. As a result, the ones out there as surplus are usually dry rotted. In PA- Coleman's Surplus has them on M37/M101 rims for ~$75 off M101 trailers they scrapped.

However, the military did put new STA Superlug tires as replacements for the aging NDT tires on M101 trailers. These might be a good source for inexpensive new rubber for our trucks.

This is all great info. As for the tires I thing the info was wrong on the listing. The ones I got all have 65% and up left on them. As for hetting the tires off of the rims there is a great commercial truck and equipment tire dealer near me. They mounted my current set of 11r16's no problem. When I worked for my local electric utility we would take the real evil tires to them that our in house guys could not do. This is the type of shop that I would reccomend that anyone with split rims goes to. I know that many regular tire shops try to do these tires. But they are not properly equiped and I find it to be dangeroud for the ones doing them. As for disc brakes someone said that and they are right but have not done it yet. My truck is an original 8000 mile truck and I am lucky to put 300 miles on it a year. Still no excuse but I have just not done it yet.

Anyone have a source for tubes and flaps for 1100R16's?? I have had no luck contacting NT&T during the last week. Many thanks!

That is not good to hear cause they are my resource for these kind of things. You might want to contact mseriesrebuild or minwestmil. I am sure that they could be of atleast some help.

I think I used 10.5 x 15" tubes on my XL's.

You should be able to find a tire place in your area that can get tires tubes and flaps....Carter Davidson put me in touch with a place in Havre de grace Md that not only ordered the NDT's I wanted, but also the tubes and flaps, and they even delivered them to my house without shipping. Fortunately for me I live not far from a town they regularly delivered to so they stopped on their return trip. I would have gotten raped on shipping had I had to buy from Wallace Wade or one of those other long distance tire outlets. Bottom line you should be able to find a local place that can order what you need and avoid the shipping costs.

My M37 had 10-ply Israeli-made NT-NATO tires on it, I think they were $35/each 10 years ago, bought at Gensco's Houston facility. Gensco rocks!
