Tools, period.

I was over on G503 admiring the 10,000 posts on tool kits for jeeps and thought I'd fix one up for the 37. I know there were some pics someplace, maybe here, of a tool kit but I cannot find them now.

Is there a list of tools I can use to hunt the semi-correct tools at flea markets? Those guys on the Gee have it down to a science.

I'd be looking for '50s era tools I suppose, or would the WWII stuff still be in use at that time?

I was thinking about tools myself recently. Carter Davidson has some pictures of period tools in one of his WebShot galleries:

Those were the pics! Now if we just had xray images of the style, shape, lot codes, manufacturer, stampings and magnetic properties of those tools, we'd be right on! :D

I'm sure there must be a list in a manual somewhere.

Some years ago, White Owl Parts Co had an abundance of these old tools still in cosmoline. They had small to huge wrench sizes, stuff to numerous to mention. Don't know if they still have them, probably do.

In TM 9-8930 it says:

"Standard and commonly used tools and equipment having general application to this materiel are listed for issue to first echelon by ORD 7 SNL G-741. Common tools and equipment for second echelon are listed in ORD 6 SNL K-7, sections 1, 2, and 3; ORD 6 SNL J-10, Section 4; and are authorized for issue by T/A and T/OE"

I have SNL G-741, but I'm not finding many specifics. I'll keep looking ... Maybe someone has the other manuals.

OVM tools listed in ORD 7 SNL G-741, 29 Jan. 1957, for the M37 appear on page 8 and it has the following:

The comm. noted with some tools refers to commercially available tools. The adjustable wrenches I have seen were made by Diamond Caulk (sp) Horseshoe Co. and the screwdrivers were by Irwin Tool Co. The pliers I have seen were not marked as mine also are not, not to say they never were.

Edit note: The abbreviations noted above are direct quotes from the manual and are not mine.

Hey, that's a good list! If we work at it we may get a sticky out of this!

Seaching the interweb has yielded nothing. I am going to see if any of these electronic manuals have anything!

Thanks you guys!!! :D
