Early M37 dash power plug?

On my early M37 there is a power plug on the lower right side of the dash panel near the glove box door. I know the plug was discontinued on later M37 vehicles. What was it meant to supply power for? Thanks.

Hi Drew Mine has one and I was told that it powers a hand held spot/work light.

I had never seen anything that plugs into it. I think they expected some things to be developed for that use an none ever came along so they deleted it in later production.

The plug was also used to supply power to the map light on the M42 Command Truck version. They ran a cord from the back along the rear canvas, out through under the cab top and over the passenger door to the recepticle. I had to look all over for that plug when I was restoring my M42. They did seem common on most early trucks then they left them off later production trucks. It seems to me there was a punch out in the sheet metal to install one if I recall correctly.
