I started disassembling the truck, and I am working on the bed, and Im having a hell of a time getting those phillips head bolts out, as most have been gnawed on by someone else in the past, or the ones I can get a good grip on are breaking off, some are so rounded to start Ive had to drill them out. Is there a place that sells reproduction ones? Id like to put that style back in for originality, but, if no one makes them, since Ive trashed a few already and cant get replacements, I'll make it easy on myself and just drill the rest.

I had the same thing recently. Most of the bolts are through bolts with a nut on the bottom only a few are carged style. So save time and get a cut off wheel on your grinder or dremil or what have you and cut the heads off and punch the rest out.

When I go to put mine back I'm planning on using regular hex head bolts, but I can understand on a restoration wanting to use originals. You should be able to get the replacements from any fastner place. ..... In fact I think if you do a search for bed bolts you will find several that have been on this subject. Try McMaster-Carr for the bolts.

John Bizal (Midwest Military) has the correct screws if you want to go with OE. Elsewise, make sure you change the weld nuts in the forward corners of the wheel cutouts on the bed side panels to match the new thread pitch.

My son has sworn off every phillips he's come across. Absolutely hates them and took great fun of havin' at 'em with the die grinder! We used standard fine thread hex - with a dab of anti-seeze in the hole. I figured that once he is away at college, I'd go back and make a few tweaks. We did not rip out the bed - only the fuel filler cover and pullman loops. Did the fuel tank access cover use hex or phils? I'm making my replacement list right now!!

Hey Kieth, I found hex heads for my fuel tank cover in METRIC ! I guess that's not original and I shall at some point match an american thread fastener to corresponding tinnemen clips...
