I am considering swapping in 4.89 gears when I replace my water damaged 5.83 differentials. I run 11.00 x 16 XL tires. The engine is out of a 1951 Coronet and has a little more power than the T245 version of the 230. I am happy with the truck's driving characteristics, but would like to improve the mileage.

The truck is used 95% on the road although I do snow plow and haul landscpaing stone with it.

What is your driving experiance w/ 4.89 and the 11x16 tires? Thanks.

Drew - no experience. Ours is a 4.89 with original spec tires 9x16. We've had in 1st gear around the block once or twice only to find a bent drive shaft....
