one thought. I have seen the head lifter fitting, where the hoist chain hooks onto the motor, in various places on the head. I found with my hoist fitting where I think you have yours, made it more difficult to get a reasonable angle on my motor-transmission assembly for removal and reinstallation. One head bolt further to the rear gives a much better balance, so the whole things isn't near vertical for installation.

But looking good so far.

NAMVET. Good call. I will lift it off of the stand with my cherry picker and see what angle it "floats" at. Make adjustments from there. Mine will be lifting the engine alone into the engine bay. No flywheel attached.
Thanks
Mike

The cherry picker lifted the engine nearly level, no issues with the connection to the bell housing.
It is coming along. More work to be done.

So far, so good. When are you going to do the rest of it?

I am keeping the body in full patina mode. Just want a safe, reliable (?) vehicle for the Christmas parade, and assault on the local coffee shop.

Some more done today. Carburetor is on, vent lines.
My newly acquired NP 420 4 speed has a very tall and long stick shift. The stick hits the bottom of the dash in first and neutral.
Need to do some mods to get it to fit and function. Would like to find a stick like this one:

Heat & bend, then cut off and use a 3/8" fine die on it.

The long shifter was issued on the early trucks.

Cut the long stick shift and fabricated a mounting block. Heated and bent the stick to fit above the seat. This seems to work well.
The heat and humidity with dew points in the 60's are limiting my time on the truck. The Porta-Cool effectiveness has dropped significantly due to the monsoon weather.

Not yet. Will be by August. Lots of little things to do. The 110*F plus 60* dew point has me reducing time on the critter.
I did take the four wheels/tires off and had them balanced. Cheap. $10/each at Big O. One wheel took 14oz of weight! We used the stick on weights that were only about 3/16" high, so they did not hit the brake drum.

Nonsoon around here. And I won't complain about that. Our shop is swamp cooled and it's 109 right now.

Had to pull the gas tank and flush the rust out. After cleaning, the tank was dried on our wonderful 110*F sunshine for a day. I coated the inside of the tank with the POR15 tank coating. Tank reinstalled. Waited an extra 2 days before adding the high test (87 octane) fuel for the flatty. With a prime shot to the carb, the engine cranked and fired. The engine ran very smooth as it should since I had the rotating and reciprocating parts balanced. Ran it on high idle for 10 minutes for get it warmed up. Outside temp was about 105*F. Should had done the trick. Need to retorque the head bolts, adjust the clutch linkage some, and a few other items. Learned quite a bit, this was my first flatty rebuild/reassembly.

Here is a Smugmug with pics and a video of the engine running post rebuild. The video is on the second page, no air cleaner.

Thanks for everyone's input. Still some minor things to do.
