Thanks guys. I really believe the plate was installed by the military as the military released it to the civil defense in the mid 70s here in our county and it was sold as surplus in the late 80s/early 90s. I bought it from the auction winner so I can trace it pretty closely. I plan on getting another plate and stamping it so it will be correct. Does anyone know the stamp font that would have been used in 1953?

I had my repro brass plates done by an engraving store at the mall, things remembered was the name I think? The cost was under 20$'s.

Check with the dealer that sells you the data plate for a source to have it stamped. You can go to the photo galleries and view some other folks data plates to see what font you think is best.
