The patch kit came with a new bottom piece which is sandwiched between the fender and the frame. I know the original is spotwelded all over the place. I was thinking of just coating the thing with seam sealer and bolting it down tight.
The top edge is going to be bolted down with the headlight bracket bolts. I may put a small button head bolt (6/32) at the two bottom corners. Still working on it.

That doesn't look bad, 06. I recall an old post here where Charles at M-Series posted a "how to" for plugging the reinforcement plate underneath to keep water and debris out of the gap.

these pieces I had to grind off the 4 rivits holding them on the fender so I could clean up the rust between them

Both of my front fenders were like that, I found a NOS driver's fender at VPW , it was worth it.
Managed to repair the passenger side.
Your work is outstanding, concours looking!!
