Mine just gave out as well. Looks like I'll be looking for a spring as well.

Your "question mark" piece is probably another busted spring that never was extracted during a previous spring replacement....

Could be, but since the latch worked fine then suddenly lost spring action it piece probably just came from the latch. Broken part had a shiney part on it where it engages latch so I assume it"s fresh.

Ok, even though I have a parade Monday and I didn't receive my latch spring yet, I got antsy and pulled the door latch. With removal of a small piece of window track I got latch to hang down into access panel opening. However, the spring is on the door side (of course). Does anyone know how to remove the latch from the handle actuator rod ? It's riveted on.

You'll have to drill it out

Thanks Bruce, I was afraid you'd say that. Could always use a small bolt with self locking threads to keep proper tension. Just hope bolt and nut combo does not interfere with nearby components.

I drilled and swapped side, re-popped the rivets, I'm not sure how the nut/bolt will do.

Did you use standard pop rivets ?

I did, they were steel not aluminum.

Thanks again Bruce but this whole exercise was futile. Received spring yesterday and drilled out latch rivet. But when trying to remove remnants of old spring one of the spring retention tabs broke off. Oh well. Gonna call Midwest and order a whole latch. Boo.

Received my NOS Spring from Midwest Military, and installed it today. The spring replacement was a little tricky, but getting the latch assembly back in the door was TOUGH. But it's all in and now my door latches again!

Good for you! Put my latch assembly from Midwest in last year. Yes, very tough but doable. Did your hands heal up yet !!!

Yea, only a few scrapes from the install, the liberal amount of lube I had sprayed made a bigger mess than any cuts. Sure hope the passenger door doesn't break anytime soon.
