IT...........IS...........ALIVE!

Got the engine started in the truck today! Not without some issues. Started out the timing was off 180 degrees big surprise, so no big deal right, just pull the distributor and rotate it 180. OH NOT SO FAST. it appears that the shaft is off set to prevent that from happening. It would drop into place perfect when 180 out but when dead on it would not set all the way in. The distributor button was suppose to set at the 7 o'clock position for top dead center. But that made it 180 off. SO what I did was switch the firing order. Now #1 fires at 1 o'clock, 180 from original. Ran alike a well oiled sewing machine. Second hit and it took off! I have never ran into this before, kinda stumped me for a few minutes. Called John and he was able to get me to a place where it made sense. the solution to switch the firing order was my brain child. It works and timing is perfect.

Transmission is back together and seems to be working freely now. I just have to put it all back together now and put a few other goodies I have for it an and I will be set, well until..............

Sounds like you got the oil pump 180 off. If you want to get the wires back to the "proper" spot, you will need to pull the oil pump and get the gears timed right.

Yep your right PWT. But by the time I figured that out, I was too tired, (more like too lazy) to re-do it. Will correct this on the next go round.

Today I installed the transmission back into the truck, no issues or problems. And also put on a new fan belt (Gates B52). The truck can now move under its own power again! Just a few more parts to install and then I will drop the transfer case and see what I have to do there.

Been a few weeks since I posted any updates, The transfer case has got new gaskets and seals in it and is now back in the truck. Pinion seals.....read every post on this site and finally decided to give Charles a call. With any luck I will have the pinion seal upgrade kits next week and pop them in. Now as for getting the old ones out............I think I used every cuss word I learned while in the service, I even made some up! I tried several of the recommendations on this site for getting them out, but the seals were stubborn. Finally got em out after about a four hour fight.
While waiting on the pinion seals I fabeb up a bracket to hold the jeep heater I bought for it. Got the heater mounted today but will wait to hook up hoses and power until next week. Mounted it under the glove box.

I think once i get these few things taken care of, I am just going to enjoy if for a few months, then start on some body work.
