Carter........my bad. I meant I was at the MTA show and swap meet in NJ last weekend. Seems I'm getting ahead of myself....Aberdeen is next weekend. But I'll check the fuel tanks there too.

Hi Guys,

Digging up an old thread here because I picked up an M37 gas tank this weekend and it had both the drain plug and the drain cock.....something we talked about but only pwrwagonfire seemed to have. This must have been from a very early M37, as it's shown in the manauls.....which use a lot of pre-production pics.....but seems to have been replaced fairly early in the M37 production by the tanks most have that do not have the drain plug....only the drain cock. Tank looks like crap, but when I looked inside I was surprised it was rust free.....still had some old fuel in it that I guess preserved it. And it was kept outside. Go figure.

So this is what it looks like.........

Yeah, I'm getting pretty sure the real early truck had this type of tank. All evidence is pointing toward that conclusion. The only question now is when did they stop using the drain plug?

Strange that I have the only one, but cool! The data plates on my truck say it was delivered 11/52.

I looked, but I don't have any pictures I'd go out to the driveway to take a picture, but it's dark!
Maybe tomorrow...

Hi pwrwagonfire,

Well.....you don't have the only one :( ....here's a pic of the tank from the M rotting in the woods by my buddy's house. That truck was made in February of 1952 and I've circled the drain plug in red. So far we know the early trucks had the drain plug at least until November of '52 (yours). You don't have the only one....but you may have the last one.

I have a 51 M37 and it too has both plugs on the gas tank. I think mine was made around April of 1951.

My '54 does NOT have the drain plug (although the moron radiator shop that flushed mine added a second plug w/o my permission when they flushed and sealed it).
