24087 refers to a particular color mixed in accordance with a set of specs known as the Federal Standard (FS). It is a semi-gloss darkish OD that was used throughout the Vietnam War on vehicles. IIRC when the FS specs changed in 1995, 24087 was re-formulated into a lighter, yellowish version. The current spec for 24084 is very close to what the Vietnam War era 24087 used to be.

They would mix the green and yellow together to get a color close to the late 1960's standard color that was explained above. But in talking to these guys the color was more of a dark green than a brown green, but 24087 is a camilion color in that in certain light it looks more brown green and in other light it looks more dark green. So it worked for them.
