Very good point on the engineering. I may leave it the way it is, I was just wondering if there was an alternative. I was looking at differnet truck mounting systems and Chevy used a similar set up in the late 40's and early 50's on their trucks, but instead of the spring they used a rubber bushing. I thought it was interesting.

One other modification I might make would be to put a stop nut (nut with nylon in it to keep it from backing off) instead of the nut and cotter pin set up. It's all theory right now anyway because until I can get some time away from work and from the honey do list their aint nothing happening with the truck... :)

Thanks for all the input guys.

My belief is that you can do anything that you want to do along as you’re sure it is safe for you and the public. I was giving the engineers a hard rap of how the cab mount was made, but there is a reason for the development of the system whether it is safety or functional and all has to be considered. The key is that you already know what works and by changing one thing could lead to alignment concerns that you may have never thought of and won’t realize until you’re way along with the rebuild and there it is. Nylock nuts are ok if you get grade 8, but castle nuts with cotter keys are safer and you don’t want to use cheep hardware like you can get from Harbor Freight. The other question is how GI correct are you working toward. My personal preference is a close to factory/field condition and I realize sometimes some things are difficult to do but not impossible and most everything you might need is still obtainable. :)

I am not restoring the truck to 1950's original. I'm building a concept truck in that the question I asked myself is 'what if the army had kept the truck in 1966 and just kept modifying it like they did the M35 what would be the modern version of the truck?" So it's going to be all GI but modernized. Therefore the reason for asking the question in the B3 version of the truck would the cab mouting system have been changed in say 1982? This is mostly all theory right now as I wont be bolting the cab down permently until sometime late spring 2012 if lucky.
