I think the heat generated by the curing resin would be very minimal in that case. I think the greater risk would be in wire brushing a leaking gas tank. Safety issues aside, I think its still a waste of time, as it will most likely be leaking again before winter is over.

STILL ON THE WAIT WITH THAT ISSUE. I DO NOT THINK THAT THE FIBERGLASS CURING HEAT WILL BE DANGEROUS WITH THE RUSTY TANK. I DO BELIEVE HOWEVER IT WILL BE A WASTE OF TIME, MONEY, AND ELBOW GREASE. ALSO, AS A SIDE NOTE, GASOLINE NEED A SPARK TO IGNITE. I HAVE THROWN LIT CIGARETTE BUTS IN A SMALL TIN CAN WITH ABOUT HALF AN OUNCE OF FRESH GASOLINE, AND THE BUTTS WOULD GET EXTINGUISHED. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. HOWEVER, IF THE BUTT WAS LIGHTLY TAPPED WITH THE FINGER ABOVE THE SAME GAS FUMES AND A SPARK ESCAPED FROM THE HOT POINT, THAT BECAME ENOUGH TO LIGHT THE FUEL UP, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A GOOD 6 INCHES ABOVE THE FUEL.

My grandpa used to extinguish cigar stubs in the fuel tank of his Farmall tractor and never had an incident. The reason is that gasoline will not burn in its liquid state. The fumes burn like crazy, though. If you get the cigar/cigarette but through the fumes and into the liquid fast enough, you're okay. Most people are not that fast, though, so I DO NOT RECOMMEND EVEN TRYING. I don't want to hear "Bubba" saying "Hold mah beer an' watch this!"

Yep, and usually when repairs are being made to a leaky fuel tank, its generally full of fumes... Heat source, minimal or not, is still a bad thing.
