I work as an electrician and have been installing a lot of 24v ac and dc led lighting this year. We have a lot of small lighting strips left over which I am sure I could use. Could you post a photo of your install? Is your light a festoon lighting strip or a smaller strip with integral LEDs which are non-replaceable? I am also thinking of using a short section as a license plate light, wired into the tail light circuit. I would like to hear how you install yours. Personally I will use a simple dash mounted toggle switch.

I'm a lighting designer/specifier by trade so I'm around LEDs all the time now. I got a sample of this flexible LED strip that snaps into an aluminum extrusion (http://www.jescolighting.com/documents/ ... 092410.pdf) from our local rep. A lot of LEDs are only 12v, but this one is 24 so no transformer required. I haven't yet hooked it up to the truck so am not sure if the power is clean or stable enough for the fixture. I may need a constant current device.
Depending on where I decide to mount my license plate, I'll probably use the exterior version of the Jesco fixture or one of these (http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/ ... cs/LPC.htm)

I'll definitely post some pictures though, hope you will too

LED's are amazing. Can't wait to see some pictures !! I work all lot at night and all my flashlights are now LED.

we're seeing steady exponential improvements in the technology. For instance there are several viable LED recessed downlights now that easily outperform conventional incandescent and even compact fluorescent. We've specified LED fixtures that can light to the tops of skyscrapers without trouble. There's still lots of hype and snakeoil out there, but LEDs are here to stay.
